Services
The Martin Luther King Youth Center provides After School and Summer Camp programs that serve children, aged 5-13, from the communities of Bridgewater, Manville, Somerville, Bound Brook, South Bound Brook, and the surrounding areas.
The After School Program is our flagship program and operates for the length of the academic school year- from September to June. We provide transportation from local area schools to the Center. Once at the Center, children receive academic tutoring and mentoring. They are then served hot meals before being taken home in the evening.
Our Summer Camp is a ten-week program and offers unique learning experiences for our children through sports, computer workshops, and field trips. Each year, we are challenged to enroll all interested students because of a long waiting list.
After School Program
The MLKYC purchased buses and employs bus drivers to pick up children at various Somerset Schools.
The center runs during the school year from September to June Monday - Friday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
There are classrooms for students to complete their homework assignments a computer lab, a library, a play area, and extra-curricular activities crafted for rainy days.
The play area provides children with time to unwind and exercise after doing their homework.
We provide a nutritional dinner for each child before they go home.
Fridays are reserved for professional speakers who come to the center and provide educational insight in areas. Workshops are also scheduled to provide hands-on learning.
Summer Camp
During the summer, the educational tone created during the school year is applied in addition to fun activities at day camp.
Campers are engaged in sports, games, and special field trips to broaden their experiences and we escort our Campers to a local swimming pool twice weekly.
We provide our Campers with educational activities:
