Driven To Help in Assisting
Underserved Children

As a Somerset County, NJ United Way Agency MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. YOUTH CENTER (MLKYC) to be recognized as an outstanding after-school and summer enrichment center. To do this, we creatively engage our kids through exciting educational programs, emphasizing character development and leadership skills.

Our History

A few of the residents in Bridgewater, New Jersey met and decided to request land from the township to build the MLKYC. That is how we were able to open our doors in August 1972. After we generated enough funds to build the youth recreation center for underserved children, we wanted to do more. We structured it as an after-school program that offers tutorial services, with 40 children enrolled during our initial run. Currently, we have 55 plus students for the after-school program and 100 for our summer camp.

Our Children

The MLKYC has a complete library and computer room. With Rajni Chopra serving as the executive director, she has a team of certified teachers for each grade level. Children are tutored individually and in small groups. We collaborate with local school administrators to continually enhance our curriculum, especially in the areas of math, reading, and language.
